Upcoming and new fashion designers to look out for - Shopping - Fashion Style

Creatures of the Wind

One of the most interesting fashion designers to look out for in 2011 is Creatures of the Wind. The Chicago based label was created by designers Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters, with their dbut taking place for the Fall collection in 2008. Their designs are feminine with key attributes including contemporary lines, detailing, skilful draping and mixes of illustrious textures. Many of their outfits have been designed on an early 1960's vintage look and folk art. The pair have proclaimed that they are not going for a glamorous look with their collection, but instead view their designs with a more 'outsider' look. The inspirational collection by the pair for Autumn/Winter 2010 contained a nostalgic theme, and included trends such as metallic colours and unique cape designs. The collection can be found worldwide, including New York, France, London, and of course, Chicago. They also have their own website which displays all of their recent collections. The designers are bec oming increasingly popular in the fashion world, and this growth is only set to continue during 2011. They are definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

Felicity Brown

London based designer Felicity Brown has transpired to be one of the new upcoming designers to look out for this year. A graduate of the College of Art and former textile designer, Felicity started her career on the fashion circuit by working for famous designers Mulberry, Alberta Ferreti and Lanvin, before deciding to go it alone to set up her own label. Felicity looks for elegance in her designs and her dresses and skirts are made up of wonderful pleats and ruffles. The use of hand dyes and fantasy fabrics help in creating her captivating designs, which are full of bright colours, often making use of the colour blocking trend. Her designs range from short simple pencil style dresses to the more experimental designs. She brings a whole new meaning to the cocktail dress with her artful creations. Felicity Brown is a name which we will see more and more on the fashion circuit in 2011.

Michael van Der Ham

Michael van Der Ham originated from the Netherlands, and is quickly becoming a huge presence on the London fashion circuit. Michael studied an MA in Fashion at Central Saint Martins, which then led him to establishing regular work with designers, Alexander McQueen and Sophia Kokosalaki. You can see the strong influence these designers have had in his creations, particularly McQueen, who was known for his flamboyant style. Michael has featured at London Fashion Week and has also picked up several awards for his designs. The main concept behind his creations is to mismatch different textures, colours and materials, which we wouldn't usually put together, with the result being some wonderfully unique and bold designs. His designs range from pencil skirts to extraordinary dresses. Some of his styles are modern, some medieval and he enjoys knitwear, outerwear and vintage prints. Michael's Autumn/Winter collection is exclusively featured at Liberty of London. His latest creation s will be showcased at the NEWGEN show, which will take place in February 2011.
